Kansas City here we come!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS ON WINNING THE SUPERBOWL. Also, congrats to the MVP QB, Patrick Mahomes.

Llama was so excited to watch this year’s Superbowl. Not for his fantasy league (doesn’t have one) or his love of the NFL. Llama is actually a college football fan and a Red Raider.

Llama was ready to cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs and the former Red Raider QB, Patrick Mahomes. After a few tense moments, Llama cheered the Chiefs well deserved win.

So what does this have to do with Llama’s travels. Well, Llama had the luck to travel to Kansas City, Missouri in June of 2019. What a great trip and Llama highly recommends it.

Llama found so many gems in Kansas City. It’s downtown is surprisingly walkable and has so many things to see just walking around. Murals abound as well as a few other “unique” things.

Kansas City, Llama came to find out, is home to the world’s largest cap gun and the original home of the Future Farmers of America marked by a cool bench and plaque not far from the Kansas City Library that looks like stacks of books. Is was a Sunday morning and the library wasn’t open yet, so we enjoyed a light breakfast and tea the The Made in KC Cafe (pictured above). It is much bigger than it looks and sell KC merchandise there also. Yummy.

Kansas City is also the home the World War I Museum. Situated high above Center City, the beautiful edifice is gleaming white and emotionally moving.

Llama and his companions arrived there right at the end of the fun run so parking was a bit crowded. But this allowed for a nice walk up to it to take in the full grandeur of the structure. This museum is extremely well done with interactive exhibits, tons of artifacts, and volunteers to help. Plan on at least a half day there.

Must eat BBQ

As a Texan, Llama had been told over and over about the wonders of KC BBQ over Texas BBQ. So of course, we had to sample the best. After the WWI Museum, Llama and companions headed to Joe’s BBQ. Joe’s is an institution that is located in a gas station (important criteria for Llama). There was a 2-hour wait for counter service but no one at the take out window, so Karol whipped out her cell phone, placed an order, and 30 minutes later they enjoying yummy BBQ in a city park down the road.

Llama’s decision on the BBQ is that KC and Texas BBQ are both delicious. Yummy.

One of the best parts of this lunch was the sweet marriage proposal they got witness at the Japanese Water Gardens at the park. ❤

Karol is a big, little kid

There is so much to talk about with KC, but central to the trip is Karol showed she is a silly kid, AGAIN. She meets up with her work friends and giggles for hours.

This woman thinks Karol is a dork. She’s probably right.
Yep, she’s right.

She also finds a 19th century warehouse that is now an antique store that had a working freight elevator that she could ride! You can ride this by visiting the Historic West Bottoms area.

Kansas City is a must visit and a must return. Llama had a blast and there is so much more to see. So if you head there, say hi to Patrick Mahomes and check out a few of these neat aspects of KC.
